Personal Property Insurance Special Credit Reports

Some companies sell special credit reports for the purpose of determining eligibility and rates for personal property insurance, which includes automobile insurance and homeowners/ renters insurance.

Some special credit reporting agencies collect your driving behavior data from your mobile phone or your motor vehicle, using GPS technology known as “telematics.” These special credit reporting agencies sell this information to automobile insurance companies, who use it to determine eligibility and set prices.

Some special credit reporting agencies sell your property insurance claims and loss history data to insurance companies, who use it to determine eligibility and set prices.

If someone is declined for a new insurance policy application, or given a worse price, the insurance company must provide them with an “Adverse Action Notice” that includes the name and contact information of the credit reporting company that sold the report.
